Early Life
Tim- Berners-Lee was born in London on June 8, 1955. From age 14 to 18, he attended South West London's Emanuel School, which at the time was a direct grant grammar school. Because both of his parents worked on the first commercially built computer, Berners-Lee knew a lot about electronics and how they worked. From 1973 to 1976, he studied at The Queen's College Oxford, where he earned a first-class bachelor of arts degree in physics.
Career
After he graduated, Berners-Lee worked as an engineer. In 1978, he helped D. G. Nash create a type-setting software for printers. In 1980, He went to work as an independent contractor at CERN. During that time, he started a project that was based on the concept of hypertext. To show how it worked, he built a prototype system names ENQUIRE. Following that, he used ideas similar to ENQUIRE to create the World Wide Web, which led to the development of the first web browser.
Personal Life
As a child, Tim was raised as an Anglican, but he eventually turned away from religion. He has said "Like many people, I had a religious upbringing which I rejected as a teenager... Like many people, I came back to religion when we had children". In 1990, he was married to Nancy Carlson and had two children; which led to a divorce in 2011. In 2014, he married Rosemary Leith. She is director of the World Wide Web Foundation and a fellow at Harvard University.
